Ash Murphy

Hello, my name is Ash. On my mother’s side I am WSÁNEĆ, and my father’s side Nlaka'pamux. I am also a wee bit Irish from my fathers side. I am also connected to the Namgis band in Alert Bay.

I have been crafting and creating most of my life, mostly self taught. I love beadwork, sewing, drawing, wirework, cedar weaving etc. My father was a carver, so for part of my childhood I grew up in a creative household which instilled a love of art, the spirit of creativity, problem solving and the desire to support our Artists.

My traditional name is SȾI,XIM, which means an Eagle dancing in the trees.

I’m proud to be a member of the Lekwungen Traditional Dancers.

I have a passion for dancing, language and songs from all our great nations.
